Chuck My condolences to you and Lorenzo's family...I will always remember Lorenzo meeting us with a friendly smile and telling us where the Hot spot was firing that day. I can remember the last day of our last trip Lorenzo told us we should check out Tuilin. Boy was he right on that day- head to double overhead, glassy, sunny. I believe John Russell even get some footage of him that day. We will always remember Lorenzo . Please let us know if there is anything we can do. Next time I am surfing a CR barrel and come out of it, I will look to Heaven and smile back at Lorenzo looking down at us. Take care, Bro. ~ E. Lee

Hi Chuck and Granpa Chuck, It was nice to hear your voices this morning, I thought this song I wrote for Lorenzo might make you smile a little. It has a surf theme to it, I wrote it after returning from CR the first year I met Lorenzo at your cabinas (1995). He and I wrote so many love letters that year...what a fantastic writer he was, among so many other things. A graceful surfer living in the moment....Humble, compassionate, generous, goofy, loving, tender-hearted, forgiving, loyal, reliable....always reassuring that every little thing is gonna be alright.....and it will. Lots of Love to you and your family, Anneke
LorenzLo's song Bird Love Every night I look into the sky for you Every night I see your eyes in the stars Sparkling above and looking down on me Love is in your heart that shines in the dark Suddenly our spirits are moving as one Swimming in the seas of the universe Riding cosmic waves, catch a shooting star Every night I ride in the skies with you Every night I drown in your starry eyes Morning has its way of sneaking up on me Swells on the horizon, Ocean of sun Rub my sleepy eyes, Rising with the rays Ocean of sun and the night is done copyright 2008

Chuck, I am deeply saddened to learn of Lorenzo's passing. Has it been determined what happened? He was a terrific person with a true passion for life. There are a few people you meet in life that leave their mark on you as a genuine human being. He was one of those people. We appreciated very much all of his help and will miss him very much. He very much contributed to our vacations and for that I am eternally grateful. Please pass along my and all of my buddies condolences to his family, friends and co workers. I am so verysorry bro. I look forward to the day when we can all join Lorenzo again on perfect waves in a perfect place forever. We will see you again soon. There will be better days ahead my friend. Take Care. ~

Hi Chuck,
Thanks for getting back to me. I am deeply saddened by the news. I have been trying to come to grips with this all morning as I discovered the news today while at the gym. I'm still in disbelief. Abe was like an older brother to me and we shared consecutive birthdays in May. We also had several college classes together and would go surf many a time after class. I hadn't heard from Abe in quite some time. I just tried emailing him the other day with no luck. His old email address has become inactive. I've been looking through all my old photos all day, trying to find the ones of Abe and I out on the town here in Honolulu. I haven't located them just yet, but I did find a bunch of pics I took of Abe surfing at Diamondhead. I will attach them to this email for you to enjoy and remember Lorenzo. If you have any pics of him or the service in Jaco, please send them my way. I would be thrilled just to see his face again. I'm looking at my single fin retro board right now, the one Abe always used to ride. It was practically his board as every-time we surfed Threes, he'd want to take it out. I can still picture him dropping in on everyone out there on the inside without a care. haha. I miss the guy. I'm glad to hear he passed peacefully and for reasons unavoidable. I know I had questioned his motives for wanting to go back to CR. He was doing so well here in Hawaii. I guess he had his reasons but I have missed him ever since. I was in Costa Rica not too long ago, and I knew Abe was there. I tried locating through email, but instead of going to Jaco to hunt him down I went to Pavones. If I were to have known that it would have been our last encounter, I would have surely taken up search of him in Jaco. Can I ask you a favor? Can you pass me the email or home address of his family. I would like to send his family my condolences and let them know that Abe will be lost and that my heart goes out to them. Maybe you can forward some of the pictures I'm going to attach. I know Abe had copies of all of them because I made them for him, but I'm not sure if Abe hung on to them. Okay Chuck, until we meet again man. The next time I'm in Costa Rica, I'll have to stop by Jaco to say hello. I'll bring a picture of me from when I was in Jaco and when we met. Maybe it will ring some bells. I'm sure millions of people pass through there, so I wouldn't be surprised if you have no recollection of me. I remember we had a conversation about you counting money in Spanish, which for me was interesting and hard to understand. Y ahora yo hablo Espanol tambien. Vivi por dos anos en Sudamerica y asisti la U en Chile por un ano. So it all makes sense to me now. haha. Again man, muchas gracias por haberme respondido rapidamente asi. ~
Aloha,
Mike |

Chuck-
My deepest sympathies to you and your crew at the shop on the passing of Lorenzo. I will always remember that big smile that greeted you as you walked up to the store. I had last been in Jaco in June with my whole family and Lorenzo took time with my 10 year old son looking through skating mags until he found one he liked to buy. Lorenzo set him up with shopstickers and made his day. That was Lorenzo - always interested in your story and always positive attitude with people.
Jaco lost a good man in Lorenzo-he was a person that left a strong impression of peace. You are in our prayers during this time of sadness. ~

| Lorenzo was the kind of person who made an impact on everyone who crossed his path. He was such a gentle soul. I will never forget the day I met Lorenzo and the rest of the folks at your surf shop. We had great conversations with everyone and Lo proceeded to give me the best surfing lesson of my life. What a genuine person with a true passion for people and life. He was the kind of person you meet and never forget. My husband and I had the most amazing time learning from Lo. We always think of Lo when we think of surfing or |

Hi to Chuck's dad and the whole team, just checked my emails and I couldn't believe what I read! It makes me incredibly sad! My deepest condolences to you and Lorenzo's family.
He was such an amazing and likeable person! He was the reason for me to come back to CR. Now his soul is the reason for me to come back! Not many people I met in my life were like Lorenzo, I saw this amazing guy, for the first time and noticed instantly we will have a great time. And he made me a better surfer! I ll turn on a candle for him tonight. Will never forget Lorenzo and I ll never forget his smile. Carsten from Berlin/ Germany |

Hey Chuck, my name is Wiley Fairchild, I am a friend of Lorenzos from Santa Fe New Mexico. He was an awesome guy and I always wondered what had happened to him after high school. I thought one day we would cross paths again, I always wondered where he was and what he was up to. Then I heard this horrible news. I felt much disbelief and sadness at the news of his passing. Please pass on our condolences to his parents from his friends here in Santa Fe and let them know we have always thought about him. Glad to know he was doing the things he truly loved.
Much admiration and love,
Wiley Fairchild & Friends
